Many of you provided great input into last week’s leadership challenge, so let’s try another one. This week, you are a leader facing impending layoffs. How do you respond?
How the challenges work
In these WWYD (What Would You Do?) leadership challenges you have a chance to combine a few minutes of entertainment with the possibility of learning something.
Share your thoughts whether you are an experienced leader, a new leader or an aspiring one. This is open to everyone.
There is not a ‘correct’ answer – just a discussion of approaches.
WWYD Scenario 2: Impending layoffs
Scenario: You are a mid-level manager in a company. You lead a team of fourteen people – a combination of technical experts, project managers, writers and trainers.
Like most companies, your company has been hit hard by the COVID 19 pandemic. Every team in the company focuses on different types of projects.
Half the company is now frantically busy, because their work relates to pandemic response. The other half of the company – including your team – find themselves idle as your projects are put on hold.
You start hearing rumors of furloughs or layoffs coming for the idle teams. Your team members start calling you looking for answers.
What do you do next?
Be specific – provide three actions in the comments you would take in the next 24 hours.
